- Submission Info
Byron Bay plays host to some of Australia’s most successful festivals and provides a unique environment for creative arts to be nurtured and celebrated. The Byron Bay International Film Festival provides a platform for independent filmmakers locally, nationally and from around the world.
It is our intention to preserve the unique spirit of Byron Bay within the festival itself – reflecting our local community values by maintaining a strong emphasis on social and environmental issues, human rights, diversity and multiculturalism, creativity, indigenous culture, spirit, healing, connecting to nature, conscious thinking and positive living, music of every variety, marine preservation, colourful characters, humour and, of course Byron’s favourite past-time, surfing.
We don’t limit the films we show to just those within the themes described above. We like to transport our audience away from this sub-tropical paradise and expose them to stories, people and places that are worlds away.
BBFF supports independent filmmakers in all stages of their careers and we believe in creating positive opportunities wherever possible – profiling selected filmmakers and promoting their films both before and after our festival. We bring the work of talented creatives to an appreciative and intelligent audience, and our festival is supported by some of the heavyweights of the Australian Film Industry.
